The Bremen Junior Woman's Club encourages community involvement, education and social interaction among its members. We are dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service. Club women are encouraged to select a community service program wherein their interest lies. There is something for everyone who becomes a member of the Federation.GFWC Community Service Programs and Special Projects focus on major issues that affect our communities daily—supporting women’s health, preserving natural resources, promoting literacy and equality, citizen advocacy, and encouraging volunteer service—and fall into the following areas of focus: Arts & Culture, Civic Engagement & Outreach, Education & Libraries, Environment, and Health & Wellness.
The Bremen Junior Woman’s Club partnered with the City of Bremen to help revitalize and expand the current Bremen Veteran’s Park.
The Veteran’s Park holds a very special place in all member’s hearts for several reasons. One of our former members, Patti Saylor lost her son, Paul, in Iraq. Bremen’s own sons, Mark James and Denver Johnson lost their lives fighting in Vietnam. And, we have several members whose spouses served or are currently serving in the military. These are the kind of heroes that we want to honor with a new monument.
We also have several citizens from Bremen who made their mark in history that we would like to honor. Three of the men from Bremen were prisoners of war. Colonel Wayne Waddell’s plane was shot down in 1967. He was captured and held in the POW camp known as the Hanoi Hilton until 1973.
During WWII, Delone McCain was captured by the Germans and held for 18 months. And Burnell Payne was captured during the Korean War.
Additionally, we would like to honor others including 91-year-old Navy veteran Johnny Cantrell who fought in WWII where he saw the flag being raised over Iwo Jima in 1945. He recently published his story in a book “Diamonds and Perils”. We would love to honor him in his lifetime by raising a new flag over the Bremen Veteran’s Memorial Garden Park for him to see.
Phase One of the Park will be to re-locate the current monuments to a more central location that will be more easily seen by all who pass the park. Along with the relocation, we will be adding a new monument dedicated to the recent and current wars, and add a much larger flagpole with appropriate lighting to honor the flag of our great nation. This phase will include pouring the concrete base and sidewalks accessible from both Hamilton Avenue and Buchanan Street. New landscaping will enhance the beauty of this area.
If you would like to purchase a paver to honor a loved one please see the attached order form or contact City Hall directly for more information.
Thank you for your support.

ALL ABILITIES PLAYGROUND
The GFWC Bremen Junior Woman’s Club wants to take this opportunity to update the citizens of Bremen, Haralson and Carroll counties on our Magnolia Playground. As many of you know, we worked for four years raising funds to build the playground. Phase I was completed in May of 2017 and was celebrated with a ribbon cutting at the Bremen Recreation Complex site. We are proud to announce that we have completed the second phase of the Magnolia All Abilities Playground: A Pavilion with plenty of seating for the whole family to enjoy.
It has been a great pleasure for our club to complete such a wonderful project that will provide years of enjoyment for our community.
We truly celebrated the value of community involvement. This project was not easy to accomplish. However, with the support of our community and being the recipient of several grants, we were able to reach our goal. And for this, we are most grateful. We want all of our supporters to know that we could not have done it without them.
